Yang Hong-won's 'Motel Affair' Allegation Five Days After His Wedding: What's Claimed vs. What His Agency Says (Timeline)

Days after rapper Yang Hong-won's 18 Oct wedding, an anonymous user alleged a motel visit with another woman. His agency denies any affair and says complaints were filed.

TL;DR: Rapper Yang Hong-won (양홍원), the 2017 High School Rapper winner, married model Won Hyun-ju (원현주) in Seoul on 18 Oct 2026. His wedding-day caption, which compared the feeling to "still walking into" a motel in Cheonho-dong, was already being criticised. Five days later, on 23 Oct, an anonymous social media user (referred to in Korean media as "A") alleged that Yang had gone to a motel with another woman before the wedding. That same day his agency, AP Alchemy, denied any affair. It said the two did go to a motel but that "there were absolutely no intimate acts", and that Yang and the woman had each filed criminal complaints against the accuser for extortion (공갈), violating the Stalking Punishment Act, and defamation by false statements (허위사실 적시 명예훼손). The couple's family YouTube channel then restricted comments. On 24 Oct, the woman involved posted her own denial. The allegation has not been proven, and the accuser's claims and the agency's account have not been tested by police or a court.

The wedding, and a caption that was already a controversy

Yang Hong-won is 27. He won Mnet's High School Rapper in 2017 and went on to appear on Show Me the Money 8. He and Won Hyun-ju have been together since 2017, roughly eight years. They announced the birth of their daughter in November 2024. In May 2026 they launched a family YouTube channel, Yang Hong-won's Parenting Diary, which covers parenting and their wedding preparations.

Yonhap reported that the couple held their ceremony on the afternoon of 18 October at a venue in Seoul. SPOTV News and News1 reported that rapper Swings hosted it and the couple's daughter was the flower girl.

The trouble started with a caption. Alongside the wedding photos, Yang wrote (in Korean): "Hyun-ju, I love you. I still feel like I'm walking into [motel name] in Cheonho-dong." Yonhap News TV dates the post to the 18th, before the ceremony. Most other outlets reported it on the 19th. The caption named a real motel, which we're leaving out. News1 noted that Yang never explained what he meant. Most readers took it as a nod to the couple's early dating days.

The reaction was split. Money Today and SPOTV News quoted comments such as "worst caption ever, edit it" and "a motel, on your wedding day?", along with posts asking why he didn't just say "I love you". News1 quoted users who said it showed "no respect" for his wife. Others defended it as "Yang Hong-won's own way of talking" and wished the couple well. It was a small story, but four days later it gave Korean headlines their framing: "Even his wedding message was about a motel."

The allegation (what is claimed, and by whom)

On 23 October an anonymous social media user, referred to as "A" in all coverage, posted a claim. In News1's translation: "A newly married groom went to a motel with a woman. Is that not wrong?" According to JoongAng Daily, A alleged that Yang visited a motel with another woman, and Hankyung reported that A said this happened weeks before the wedding. A also released audio of phone calls with Yang and a screenshot of a message A said had been sent to Won Hyun-ju.

Star News described one of the recordings: A asks Yang to lend them 300,000 won (about US$210), and Yang appears to say no. Several outlets, Top Star News and Mediafine among them, also reported that A posted the face and social media account of the woman involved, who is a private individual. We will not identify her or repeat any of those details.

Later on 23 October, News1 (via Dong-A Ilbo) reported that another person who said they were present posted a rebuttal saying A's material was manipulated.

These are allegations made by one anonymous individual. No investigative body has made any finding. Sports Donga put it plainly: because the two sides' accounts conflict, the facts "will likely be established through any investigation going forward".

Agency response: denial and criminal complaints

AP Alchemy posted a long statement on its official social media on 23 October. The full Korean text was carried by OSEN, Sports Chosun and News1/Dong-A, and Star News and Sports Chosun ran English translations. The main points:

  • Denial: "The accuser's claims are contrary to the facts, and the materials presented by the accuser are the result of malicious editing."
  • Extortion claim: the agency says A threatened Yang and the woman "in an attempt to extort money" and went public after the attempt failed. It says the two reported A to police before the posts appeared.
  • Complaints filed: Yang and the woman have each filed criminal complaints against A for extortion (공갈), violating the Stalking Punishment Act, and defamation by spreading false facts.
  • The motel visit is admitted: after a performance, Yang was drinking at A's home. According to the agency, A told Yang and the woman to leave and go to a motel A had picked. Yang was "heavily intoxicated" and went there to sleep, and the woman, "who had nowhere else to go", went with him.
  • No intimacy: the agency says Yang fell asleep as soon as they entered the room and that "there were absolutely no intimate acts in the room". It says the woman later called A for help and left with A.
  • No money paid: "No money was paid in response to the accuser's demands. All of this is true."
  • Next steps: the agency says it is getting tips from A's acquaintances that support its account. It promised "strict legal action" against A and against people who spread A's claims in posts and comments. It also apologised for "causing concern" and said it would take steps to prevent anything similar.

Note what the agency did and did not say. It confirmed the motel visit and denied the affair. JoongAng Daily headlined the story as a denial plus an extortion complaint. Filing a complaint does not establish that any crime happened, on either side.

Responses on 24 October

On 24 October, Star News reported that A went live on TikTok and disputed parts of the agency's account. A said they had not chosen a particular motel, only told the pair there were "a lot of motels in front of my house". A said the 300,000 won was needed because "I was hungry", and that they would "cooperate with the police investigation". In an Instagram live on the 23rd, Mediafine reported, A made remarks suggesting money and attention were part of the motive, including a mention of a growing follower count. Mediafine added that this does not prove anyone's motive either way.

Star News also reported on the evening of 24 October that the woman involved posted her own statement. She said A's claims are "very different from what I experienced and remember" and that A demanded money and posted when she refused. She said she had filed a criminal complaint and shared chat screenshots in which A appears to offer to delete her information in exchange for a payment. Her account of the night, as Star News reported it, matches the agency's: nothing happened, Yang slept on the bed and she slept on the floor.

Comment restrictions and public reaction

The family channel responded first. On 23 October the Parenting Diary team pinned a comment under its latest video, the couple's 18 October wedding film, according to Top Star News:

"We are currently checking the facts of the matter. While this is in progress, we will temporarily restrict comments to protect the people who appear on the channel. We ask for viewers' understanding."

Top Star News reported that the channel then displayed "Comments are turned off". Hankook Ilbo and Sports Donga reported the same.

Sports Chosun and Etoday reported signs that Won Hyun-ju had unfollowed Yang on social media and made her posts private. Neither she nor Yang has commented on this in any report we found. We're treating it as reported and leaving it uninterpreted.

According to Hankook Ilbo, many fans have said they're disappointed. OSEN said the timing made the reaction harsher: an allegation five days after the wedding, coming on top of the caption, left viewers of a family channel feeling let down. Some commentary has gone the other way. Mediafine's piece questioned the accuser's motives and the way private people get swept into celebrity exposés. The agency has warned that people who repost the claims could face legal action.

What's next

  • Police process. The complaints for extortion, Stalking Punishment Act violations and defamation are with authorities, according to the agency and the woman. Police haven't said anything publicly, and none of these complaints is a finding against anyone.
  • Counter-claims. A says they will cooperate with police. If A files complaints of their own, or the agency acts against commenters as it has promised, there could be several cases running at once.
  • The couple. Neither Yang nor Won Hyun-ju has posted personally about the allegation in any report we found. Whether the YouTube channel turns comments back on, or posts again at all, is the clearest sign to watch.
  • More "evidence". A had promised more posts before the agency's statement. Anything new should be treated with the same caution: the agency already says the existing material was edited.

We'll update this timeline if police, the agency or either party says more.
