Built With REA: The Real GitHub Repos Behind ReaCut, SpeakMore, Battlefield 2 and 5 More
We cloned 8 REA-built repos (ReaCut, SpeakMore, open-obsidian, Open Claude UI, OpenBattlefield2, WoW and more) and checked each claim in code on Oct 21, 2026.
TL;DR: Here are the GitHub repos behind eight projects that credit REA (Reverse Engineer Anything), with each headline claim checked against the code on Oct 21, 2026: ReaCut, SpeakMore, open-obsidian, Open Claude UI, OpenBattlefield2, Creative Destruction Reborn, a WoW Shadowfang Keep slice and Desktop Games. Most of the numbers hold up. Two are off: Open Claude UI ships 33 modules and 194 tokens, not the 30 and 183 its README claims. One REA credit is overstated: in the WoW repo, REA's own report shows its native analysis failed, and the decompiling was done in Ghidra directly.
How to read this: "Confirmed in the repo" means we found it in the code or files, or ran it. "The author says" means it appears only in the README, docs or posts, and we couldn't reproduce it.
REA ("Reverse Engineer Anything", morluto/rea) is an MCP server and CLI. It lets Claude Code, Codex or Cursor drive Ghidra, Hopper, IDA and JavaScript/Electron analyzers. New to it? Start with our REA explainer and the install guide.
Why these showcases matter
REA's official showcase page is small on purpose: one DX-Ball function, Notion's clipboard bridge, a Touhou bullet ring, an Aegis login code and a CTF. The community projects below are whole apps and engines. They show what an agent produces when it starts from a shipped binary. They also show how unevenly authors document what REA actually did.

Star counts are a snapshot from Oct 21 around 08:40 KST. Most of these repos are under two weeks old, so the chart mainly shows which posts went viral.
1. ReaCut: a CapCut-style editor for Mac
Repo: Xiangyu-CAS/rea-capcut · MIT for its own code · first commit Oct 13
- Confirmed in the repo:
package.jsonis at 0.5.1.- The v0.5.0 release carries a 194 MB arm64 DMG and a Codex plugin zip.
- The source has code for chroma key, masks, keyframes, SRT/WebVTT, H.264/AAC export and the
.reacutproject format, plus a plugin bridge.
- REA's role (partly confirmed):
docs/research/REA_FINDINGS.mdlists REA 6.4.0 evidence IDs from two steps: an inventory of the installed Jianying app and passive observation of its native UI. Most of the project-format clues come from entries labeledLOCAL-STR-*, which are plain local string scans, not REA output. The draft importer was tested against Jianying 11.0.12922 only, and it's lossy. - The author says: Windows and Linux builds exist but haven't been tested on real machines.
2. SpeakMore: Typeless, rebuilt in the open
Repo: zephyr4123/speakmore · MIT · v0.12.0
- Confirmed in the repo: "29 models" is correct. We loaded the model catalogs:
- 7 native audio models (Gemini 1, OpenAI 2, Bailian 4)
- 4 on-device transcription entries (two model families, each in two runtime formats)
- 6 cloud transcription models
- 12 unique polishing models (13 vendor rows; DeepSeek V4 Pro is offered twice)
- Also confirmed:
targets/typeless/docsholds 18 analysis notes, citing 53 unique REA evidence IDs.- REA's skill files sit in
.claude/skills/. - The package targets both macOS and Windows.
- Partly confirmed: "no Typeless code" holds in the sense that we found no Typeless endpoints in
src/. Butprotocol.mjssays its message and field names "copy the Typeless capture results." Window sizes and level-meter rules are also matched to the original. It's a behavioral clone, not a fresh design. - The author says: the Mac build is Developer ID signed and notarized. Signing scripts exist, but we didn't check the binary.
3. open-obsidian: an Obsidian alternative in 74 KB
Repo: JingHao-Leon/open-obsidian · 0 stars · MIT · Oct 14
open-obsidian is a local-first Markdown knowledge base that runs entirely in the browser. It has wikilinks, backlinks, a graph view, tags, properties and a small plugin API of its own design.
- Confirmed by running it:
vitestpasses 116/116 tests across 7 files.- The production build is 74.38 KB gzipped JS, plus 2.89 KB of CSS.
- The search really is BM25 (k1 = 1.2 in
searchIndex.ts).
- The author says: before writing any code, they ran REA statically on Obsidian 1.14.4's
app.asar. It found a 13,535-bytemain.jswith no BrowserWindows and no preload scripts, which is why the project ships without Electron. The run is recorded with an evidence ID indocs/REVERSE_ENGINEERING.md, but we didn't rerun it.
4. Desktop UI rebuild: Open Claude UI
Repo: Caho1/open-claude-ui · 1,286 stars · MIT · created Oct 14
- Numbers don't match the README:
- "30 modules": there are 33
.ts/.tsxfiles incode-examples/. - "183 design tokens": the repo's own
check-tokens.mjsreports 194--cds-*tokens (220 custom properties in total). - Both counts are higher than claimed. The README is out of date, not exaggerating.
- "30 modules": there are 33
- Confirmed in the repo: the "3,000+ line manual" is real. The v1 full manual alone runs 4,610 lines, and
docs/totals about 14,500 lines including a storybook HTML page. - The author says: REA did the ASAR unpacking and deobfuscation. REA is credited throughout the docs, but only 2 REA evidence IDs appear, so the analysis can't be traced back step by step.
5. OpenBattlefield2: the Refractor 2 engine in C++20
Repo: Moxnatiy/OpenBattlefield2 · 53 stars · MIT (LICENSE file)
Battlefield 2's GameSpy-backed online services shut down in 2014. This engine reads your own BF2 1.5 install and ships no game content.
- Confirmed in the repo:
CLAUDE.mdhas a section called "REA: one function whole, as evidence," andtools/rea.shexists.- There are 55
test_*.cppfiles, and network tests replay recorded server captures fromtests/data/. - Ruffle's Flash bridge is in
src/flash.
- The author says: on a live server, "343 of 344 states within 1 mm" of the client prediction. The number appears in the README and
CLAUDE.md, but no test asserts it, and reproducing it needs an original dedicated server, which we didn't run.
6. Creative Destruction Reborn: an offline server
Repo: crasyimperior/creative-destruction-reborn · 0 stars · no license file · Oct 13
- Confirmed in the repo:
- About 1,660 lines of Python:
offline_server.pybinds to 127.0.0.1 only, there's anexproto.pyprotocol module, andprotocol.jsonhas 1,532 entries. - A client mod is included.
- It's local single-player, not a public server revival.
- REA is credited in a single README footer line. There's no REA output in the repo.
- About 1,660 lines of Python:
- The author says: the official servers closed in June 2022.
7. WoW Shadowfang Keep: less REA than advertised
Repo: wubing733-prog/wow-mobile-ios · 0 stars · no license file
- Confirmed in the repo:
- The v1.0-ios release
.ipais 68,060,794 bytes, which is 64.91 MiB. GameplayTest.gddefines exactly 9 checks, run with--gametest.- The repo contains about 35 MB of Shadowfang Keep assets extracted from the WoW client.
- The v1.0-ios release
- The author says: 9/9 tests pass on Windows and macOS.
- REA's role was smaller than the label suggests:
- The repo's own
docs/REA-FINDINGS.mdshows REA identifiedWow.exe, but its native analysis failed (no analysis engine was bound, and a saved run timed out). - That report also says REA doesn't support CASC, the client's storage format.
- The decompiling was done in Ghidra directly (
ghidra-scripts/WowStats.java; the author reports 106,399 functions), and the assets were extracted with casclib. - "Built with REA + Ghidra" is accurate only in the loosest sense.
- The repo's own
8. Desktop Games: one toy, nine tools
Repo: ucodia/desktop-games-nostalgia · 6 stars · no license file · built Oct 9
This is one game, not a collection: the 2000 freeware Stress Reducers by Miroslav Němeček (Gemtree).
- Confirmed in the repo:
- All nine tools have service routines in the Swift port.
- The runtime ticks every 55 ms (
tickInterval = 0.055). re/holds the Python decompiler and asset extractor, plus a 1,316-line decompiled program.- A browser build and a macOS app are included.
- The author says: REA, with Ghidra underneath, decompiled the Peter interpreter. The repo contains no REA evidence files.

What this shows about AI reverse engineering
- The checkable claims mostly hold up. Test counts, file sizes and model catalogs matched, and two counts were actually higher than the READMEs say.
- REA credit is the weakest link. Only some repos (ReaCut, SpeakMore, open-obsidian, OpenBattlefield2) keep REA evidence IDs or a REA wrapper script. Others credit REA in one line, and in one case the repo's own log shows REA failing.
- Formats and protocols are where it pays off. Draft formats, network messages, asset codecs and timer ticks are what these repos actually recover.
- Scope is narrow. One scene, one ranking function, one offline mode. None of these is a full clone.
Caution: clean-room claims and redistributing extracted assets (as the WoW and Desktop Games repos do) are legal questions that depend on your jurisdiction. Not legal advice.
